The mission of the Economic Justice Committee is to educate, increase awareness, and prompt advocacy for economics related issues with primary focus on the housing, employment, and financial literacy areas affecting the Ventura County African American community.
The mission of the Education Justice committee is (1) to prepare African-American learners in Ventura County for effective participation and leadership in society, (2) to encourage academic rigor, promote relevant curriculum, improve assessment methods, increase matriculation, decrease drop-out rates, and achieve education parity for African-American students; and (3) to support parent advocacy.
The objectives of the Health and Wellness Justice dialogue are (1) to educate the community about the culture-specific risk factors that disproportionately predispose African-American to higher morbidity and mortality rates, (2) to increase knowledge, education and interventions as well as increase physical/mental health and well-being among African-descended people, (3) to enhance quality of like through increased health, (4) to reinforce and generalize individual health outcomes through health community activities, social practices and support, and (5) to increase feelings of personal efficacy, community empowerment and collective self-esteem through coalition building, advocacy efforts and strategic policy change.
The purpose of the Legal Justice dialogue is (1) to identify the culture-specific issues that result in the over-presentation of African-Americans in the Criminal Justice system, (2) to explore the interventions used to prevent and/or decrease Black crime, (3) to consider the first-hand experiences of African-Americans in the system and (4) to utilize those experiences to formulate new and more effective strategies to prevent primary offenses and recidivism.
The mission of Positive Circle is to develop, empower, engage, and advance leaders within African-American and underserved cultures. We achieve this by (1) getting individuals involved through community advocacy and organizational development (2) by utilizing outreach as a tool to inform, and evaluate solutions of community issues, and (3) by identifying and educating the community of systemic and emerging issues.
Positive Circle is dedicated to engaging, developing, empowering and promoting emerging leaders by creating lasting, dynamic bonds within our communities. Inside our positive circle, we believe EVERYONE has a voice. We strive daily to reveal and nurture the voices of emerging generations. We strengthen and synchronize our own voices, while promoting and building upon those legacy voices, as well. We build relationships, drive community advocacy, and develop platforms of vision expression for everyone. We create community-wide positive circles that foster the accelerated growth of leaders now and into the future.
